The Pain Factory
Opening keynote of the 22nd Congress of the Spanish Pain Society (SED), Vitoria-Gasteiz (27-29 May 2026). Antonio Muñoz de Mesa draws an analogy between pain medicine and audiovisual narrative: screenwriters, actors and directors craft our stories with the pain of our characters. Physicians seek to heal their patients by relieving their pain; stories seek to heal their audience by showing them their own.
