La Visita / Policy / Abuse
Uroc Teatro
Translated into English as Policy by Rutgers University professor emerita Phyllis Zatlin, and staged in an extended version as Abuse at Thalia Spanish Theatre, New York. Produced across three U.S. states. English-language world premiere at the Rogue Theater of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin (November 2014), with revivals in 2015. The full text was published in The Mercurian: A Theatrical Translation Review (Vol. 5, Issue 3, Spring 2015). In 2016, California State University San Marcos produced the U.S. West Coast premiere in a bilingual format: Policy in English at the campus Black Box Theatre and La Visita in Spanish at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.
The extended New York version, Abuse/Abuso, produced by Thalia Spanish Theatre in 2014–2015, won the HOLA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Playwriting, the Gilberto Zaldívar Award for Outstanding Dramatic Production, and the New York Latin Critics Circle's Best Playtext of the Year.
In 2026, La Visita returned to the stage in a staged reading at the CVPVLA Club in Madrid, performed by Antonio Muñoz de Mesa and Olga Margallo. The play explores the conflict between ethics, power and money; the sessions included a pre-event meeting, the reading itself, and a post-show discussion with the audience.
